• Balance chronology and your skill sets.  Most of the time, you’re probably familiar with resumes that list your most recent job first, then the position you held before that – all based upon a time chronology.  While this is a traditional approach, you should balance this out so your resume also highlights your most important skill sets, achievements, and organizational advancement.  A combination approach approach to your format might be best.

• Paperless. Even though most everything that has to do with resumes is digital today, you still need to make sure your resume grabs the attention of decision makers. With the proper layout, typography, even relevant images or pictures, you can make your resume stand out if you relate this very specifically to the position you are seeking.

• Talk up accomplishments. When you read your resume does it just talk about duties you had at previous positions or does it talk about solid accomplishments?  You need to impress upon decision makers why you are the best person for a particular position. Decision makers want to know your accomplishments and how you helped your prior employers make their company better. Were you able to generate cost savings, improve processes, decrease development time?  The more accomplishments you can properly list, the better chance you have to separate yourself from the competition.
